One of Tilburg’s most popular art galleries, De Pont Museum, is housed in an old textiles factory that has been turned into a creative space for contemporary art exhibitions. You might also be able to catch a talk, workshop, or performance during your visit.

To step back into the past, visit Cinnecitta, the oldest cinema in the Netherlands. This cinema has been showing films for over 100 years, and although it has been modernised it still boasts some of its original features.

Head just 15 minutes out of Tilburg and you will find Beekse Bergen Safari Park, where you can see a whole range of animals, including meerkats, tigers and white-cheeked gibbons. This safari gives you the opportunity to see everything from the comfort of your own car, or by boat along the surrounding river.

Alternatively, visit Zoo de Oliemeulen which is located in the city itself. Originally a reptile house, this zoo has expanded to include around 150 species so there is plenty to see here.

For more family fun, plan your trip around July and prepare for the biggest funfair in all of Benelux. This legendary annual event takes over the city centre with its bright lights and elaborate rides, and draws in huge numbers from surrounding towns.
Don't leave without trying Kermiskoek (Dutch carnival cake), a delicious heart-shaped ginger cake rich with honey and candied sugar.
