Head to the Escher Museum, housed in the former palace of the Queen Mother, to see the wonderful work of the internationally acclaimed artist. Next, visit the world-famous Mauritshuis Museum to admire the Royal Cabinet of Paintings from the Dutch Golden Age, including Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, and then wander through the inner court of Dutch politics which you will find next door.

See the 'Binnenhof', the oldest House of Parliament still in use in the world, and walk past the Ridderzaal (Hall of Knights), the venue where the King holds his annual Speech from the Throne. You might also like to visit Palace Noordeinde, the King’s working palace, and view the building from the palace garden.

Cycle around The Hague

One of the best things to do in The Hague is to explore by bike, as its flat landscape makes it easy for cyclists of all levels to get around quickly and safely. Unlike many other bustling Dutch cities, cycling around The Hague is a relaxing experience for the whole family, and you can expect to see beautiful scenery at every turn.

Rent a bike at Centraal Station and head north to spot deer in Koekamp Park, then cycle east into the Haagse Bos. A short ride through this delightfully picturesque forest will take you to the Huis den Bosch, which is the palace that the Dutch royal family often use as a residence.

Alternatively, head north west from the centre along the wooded Scheveningseweg, past the stunning Peace Palace, which is the site of the International Court of Justice and most photographed building in The Hague, through the old town district on Keizerstraat and up to the beautiful beach. When you reach the seafront you will find a wide range of excellent bars and restaurants so you can treat yourself to a well-deserved drink or meal.

Head to the beach

The district of Scheveningen is one of the top seaside resorts in the Netherlands, and people flock here throughout the year to relax on the beach, see the attractions, or take part in a number of fun activities.

The beach itself is 11km long and home to an esplanade, a lighthouse, and a pier. Those looking for a bit of an adrenaline rush will love a 20 minute ride on the pier’s 40m high Ferris wheel, especially in the glass bottomed gondola, or travelling from the 55m high Bungy Tower on a zip line that reaches speeds of between 60 and 80km per hour!

Scheveningen hosts a number of events that are popular with both locals and tourists, including markets, activities for children, and the exciting Kite and Firework festivals. You’ll also find interesting sculptures, a casino, and a cinema, so there really is something for everyone!
