Take a punt down the River Cam No visit to Cambridge is complete until you’ve done the punting tour down the River Cam, a relaxing way to tick off many of the best sights in Cambridge. Visit the Fitzwilliam Museum

One of our favourite things to do in Cambridge is visiting the Fitzwilliam Museum. The first collections were bequeathed to the University of Cambridge in the 16th Century by Fitzwilliam with the aim of providing a space that would increase educational opportunities available to people. The Fitzwilliam Museum opened to the public in 1848.

Even from the outside, the museum is stunning with its striking architecture which stands out amongst the backdrop of narrow, cobblestone streets. There are so many different collections for you to view. A collection that proves popular is the Egyptology collection which has grown in significance since the 19th Century, including items like the sarcophagus lid of Ramesses III.

The ever-changing Ruskin Gallery

The Ruskin Gallery, ran by Anglia Ruskin University, is well worth a visit. The regularly changing exhibition spaces are free for the public to visit and provide a unique experience. The space also includes a digital gallery – the first of its kind in the UK.

Relax in Cambridge University’s Botanic Garden

With a massive 40 acres to explore, these beautiful gardens and glasshouses provide the perfect location to find some tranquillity after a long day of sight-seeing. Cambridge University Botanic Garden first opened in 1846 and today welcomes over 300,000 visitors a year. Its impressive plant collection includes over 8,000 species for you to see throughout the landscaped gardens.

So, why not take a picnic, sit amongst the beauty, and enjoy a little bit of time-out from the hustle and bustle of life! You never know – you might see a frog or a sparrow hawk!
