Romantic getaway in France

Romantic getaway by the coast
We would highly recommend heading to Southern Frances and going to Carmargue. It is 10 hour drive from Calais Port, but there are plenty of great places to stop of along the way, for example Lyon and Paris. The Camargue is gorgeous stretch of marshland that is famous for its white horses, often seeing galloping through the shallow water. Also, its beaches are well known for having flocks of flamingos.

Or perhaps heading to Calanque National Park is on your list. The 12 miles of coastline hides dozens of little alcoves providing secluded romantic havens close to the Rivera Beaches. Calanque National Park is close to Carmargue, so you could even visit both of these locations during your romantic getaway in France.

If you love an evening walk, then we would highly recommend La Rochelle, its Marina is spectacular at night with thousands of tiny lights to illuminate the horizon. Take a romantic stroll down the promenade and find a cosy restaurant to grab a bite to eat.

Lovers sitting on a bench in the Bay of Somme

The Bay of Somme

The Bay of Somme is a foodie’s paradise, especially for lovers of seafood. Making it the perfect location for a romantic meal or two. It is a short 90 minute drive away from Calais making it perfect for day trippers as well as people looking to go for a bit longer.

The Bay of Somme is a spectacular and wild area of open water, dunes, marshes and saltwater meadows that are sprinkled with charming villages and small-scale coastal resorts. If you are an active person then there are plenty of opportunities for water sports in the Bay of Somme. This makes the estuary of the Somme River a prime spot for a weekend in Northern France.

Explore the vineyards of France

What is more romantic then exploring vineyards and enjoying a drink or two with the one you love? There are loads of different vineyards to visit in France. But the sloping valleys, limestone soil, and sunny climate in Burgundy make it perfect for producing wine, which is why it is famous for its UNESCO World Heritage vineyards and wine villages.

For a true taste of France, you must have snails cooked in garlic and parsley butter, a selection of amazing cheeses, and delicious truffles. You’ll also find a number of dishes cooked in wine, including coq au vin, beef bourguignon, and even eggs! Unsurprisingly, the number one drink to indulge in is burgundy wine, and don’t forget to stock up before you head home too.

Reims is also a paradise for wine lovers as it is the unofficial capital of France’s Champagne region. Reims is home to a number of champagne houses which offer tours and tastings a perfect activity to do as a couple.

Christmas Market in France

French Christmas Markets

We think there is nothing more romantic then enjoying a Christmas Market together, when you wrapped up warm and excited for Christmas. That is why we’ve put together some information on our favourite Christmas markets.

Arras Christmas market is held in the grand place each year and is just a short 75 minute drive from Calais Port. It is the perfect place to enjoy some roasted chestnuts or mulled wine as you wander around this beautiful market.  Other popular things to do at the market include the ice skating ring, sledge run, and carousel.

Alternatively you could go a little further afield and drive 6 hours to Strasbourg, the home to one of the best Christmas markets in Europe. There are so many things to do in the city during the festive period that you will be spoilt for choice. One of the main attractions is there big Christmas tree which can be found in the centre of the city.

We are sure that either of these Christmas markets will get you into the festive mood.

If you love an evening walk, then we would highly recommend La Rochelle, its Marina is spectacular at night with thousands of tiny lights to illuminate the horizon.
