About the city

Take a Segway tour

When simply walking around a new town isn’t adventurous enough for you, why not hire a Segway and take a tour instead? This fun method of transport offers a great way to explore, and the tour will take you along the town’s three rivers, through the forest and old city centre, and to both the German part of the town and the Quartier des Maraichers too.

You may be surprised to read about the Statue of Liberty in a travel guide about things to do in Colmar, but the famous statue’s creator, Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, was from this lovely French town so you can see a 12 metre high replica of the well-known landmark when you visit.

The replica was added to the town to celebrate the centenary of the sculptor’s death, and if you are interested in finding out more about him you can visit where he lived on the Rue des Marchands where you can see his old living quarters and plenty of fascinating artefacts too.

Eating and Drinking in Colmar

Colmar offers its visitors a whole range of tasty delicacies which you can enjoy in one of its restaurants, many of which have spaces where you can eat outside during the warmer months.

Alternatively, you may like to head to the covered market hall where you will find lots of different treats, including meat, cheese, fruit, and baked goods, which can be packed up like a picnic and taken away with you.

Due to its location in the middle of the Alsace wine region, you will be spoilt for choice if you are a wine drinker! It is mostly white wine that is produced here, and if you enjoy it you can buy some to take home with you on the ferry.

Colmar Old Town

There is plenty to see in Colmar’s Old Town, and one of the best ways to ensure that you have discovered everything is to take a free walking tour using a map that can be picked up from the Tourist Office.

The sights can also be found using the signposts which are dotted around the town, but the map will lead you to places such as Little Venice, Colmar Cathedral, the House of Heads, the Tanner’s District, and the pretty Fishmonger’s District too.
